Hi, I'm Amelia! I'm a full time student and beauty blogger living and working in the Southeast United States. I'm originally from England and hoping to move back to the UK soon. I'm an absolute beauty junkie (not helped by the fact that I work at a Cosmetics Company Store) and Harry Potter fanatic. If you want to get to know me better, you can read this post.

Hello, Sailor

The other day I wandered into Anthropolohie (oops) and I found Lipstick Queen lipsticks in the clearance section. I literally laughed out loud like a crazy person and marched Hello Sailor up to the register and giddily paid $11 for it. That's right. Eleven dollars. I've been wanting to try out this super gimmicky product for so long, but no way in heck was I shelling out $25 for a sheer blue lipstick. But $11? Heck yes.

This bright blue of the tube is really intimidating, but it's actually a really sheer blue tone that tints your lips a slightly lilac pink. It's rather brightening, and is supposed to make your teeth look whiter. I think it'll be awesome to layer over matte, vampy colours and give them another cool-toned layer. By itself, it leaves a nice blackberry tint and is really moisturizing (good for my poor dehydrated lips from being sick). I think it's a fun product, and if you're lucky enough to find it on sale, grab it. But it is definitely not worth its $25 price tag.

Have you ever tried any Lipstick Queen products?

Today's Look 02

I am all into smoky matte eyes and showcasing my freckles a la Linda Hallberg. Also in love with ear chains! Sorry I haven't been on the blogosphere much this week. It's been a snowpocalypse here and I got horribly sick. I think I'm at the end of it now so hopefully it'll be business as usual! Here's what I used:

Power Player
Dreamer
Multi-Tasker
Supermom
MAC Nylon Eyeshadow
L'Oreal Miss Magna Black Angel
Clinique High Impact Mascara

BASE

Rimmel Match Perfection Concealer in Fair
Sleek Life's a Peach Blush
I also added a few extra freckles using my
Anastasia Brow Wiz in Dark Brown

BROWS
Anastasia Brow Wiz in Dark Brown
Anastasia DipBrow Pomade in Chocolate
Bobbi Brown Espresso Eyeshadow
elf Brow Mascara

LIPS
Tanya Burr Chic lipgloss (a tiny bit)

Do you guys like the super dark eyes for everyday? I'm loving it!

My Mac Shadows

Okay can we just talk about the fact that I dropped my babies on the tiles floor right before taking this picture? The old MAC palette offers zero protection. Although that smashed powder does make them look more editoral, albeit cringy. Anywho, I thought it was about time I wrote about my beloveds. I will warn you that a lot of these are limited edition shades that I got from the CCO, but I'll try to find similar in the permanent collection.

Chamomile is a light matte beige, which is surprisingly pigmented. It's very similar to Blanc Type which is slightly less beige. I love it for a brow highlight.

Nylon is the best inner corner highlight. EVER. You can tell I love it from that massive chunk of pan showing. It's a frosty pale gold that is quite warm, but it still suits my very cool skin. PS it's permanent.

Hey is a warm champagne-beige shade that has quite a bit of shine (hello veluxe-pearl!). I don't use these type of shades as much as I used to but it is no doubt a beauty. It is a permanent which I didn't know so that's exciting!

Grand Entrance was one of the first ever MAC shadow I owned (I got my grandparents to pick up the MAC Look in a Box Girl Next Door set from duty free like 5 years ago). It's a silvery white with pinky peach undertones and is quite cool, it's also super frosty. I think Naked Lunch is as similar as it'll get, or you could just stick with Hey.

Patina is a gorgeous, neutral golden-brown. It's pretty hard to describe this pearl shade, you kind of need to see it in person. It is a permanent product so hightail over to the store and check it out.

Trax is an interesting one, it's kind of a plummy-purple with a golden sheen. It is a frost so it's quite shiny, and it looks gorgeous on brown and green eyes specifically. This beauty is also permanent, but I've found it in a LOT of CCOs so keep an eye out!

Time and Space is quite similar to Patina, but a bit more warm toned. It's closer in colour and sheen to Woodwinked, but is less warm. I think your best best is to pick up Patina (like really you need it).

Mulch is kind of out of this world. It's a warm toned pearl brown and smoked all over the lid makes my eyes look so green it's insane. It's also a permanent shadow.

Glamour Check! was I think actually THE first MAC product I ever bought. It's pretty similar to Mulch, but has more burgundy-reddy warmness. I think the most similar permanent product is Antiqued.

Prepped for Glamour is a beautiful chocolate brown that's slightly taupe. It's basically Satin Taupe so don't worry if you missed out on it.

Smoke & Diamonds is kind of like Prepped for Glamour's super-cool(toned) sister. It leans more grey than brown, but does have that bit of taupe edge. I can't find a MAC dupe, but I think it's similar to 444 from Inglot.

Night Maneuvers is kind of hard to describe, it's like a dark charcoal cool toned brown-grey. It's satin finished, but it's almost matte. It's not super pigmented, but good to build up in the crease. I can't really find a good dupe but any dark brown will do the same thing.

Show Stopper is a super cool toned dark brown matte. I love smoking this along my lashline if I don't want to wear liner. It's not super blendable, so it's not too great in the crease. It's kind of similar to Mystery or even Brun.

I still have a few spaces left in my palette! What are your must-haves?

L'Oreal Miss Manga Black Angel

There was a lot of talk last year about the L'Oreal Miss Manga mascara, but I'll be honest, the packaging turned me off. I'm such a snob. I don't know why but those little anime dolls all over it just creeped me out. Anyway, I saw that Linda used it and she can persuade me to buy anything so I wandered into the drugstore and snatched up the Black Angel version. I like my lashes dark. And boy, Linda can never steer me wrong because she was so right about this beauty.

This baby promises volume and does it give it to you. The flexible wand with sort of messy, irregular bristles means that every lash gets coated and coated. The brush is very tapered which was sort of surprising o me, I was expecting a fat brush. However, it makes application much easier. A lot of people were saying it's not very lengthening. I have pretty long lashes already but I'd say it definitely extends the look of them and helps to make your eyes look bigger and more open (i.e. anime/manga). It lasts pretty well throughout the day with just a bit of flaking on me, but I prefer flaking to smudging.

The L'Oreal Miss Manga Black Angel mascara retails from around $7.99 to $12.99 so look around! Have you tried it out yet?

January Favourites

Okay it may be halfway through February already, let's call this a current favourites post instead. This month I've been migrating back to the old favouites with a couple new things mixed in. We all know my beloved foundation combo is the Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet in Beige Rose (12) and Maybelline Dream Wonder in Porcelain Ivory. Something about this combo makes your skin look even and blowy, but stays all day. For some reason, I blame stress, I've been breaking out a lot this month but MAC's Studio Finish Concealer in NC15 (pale problems) has taken care of those. As always, I can't live without my Anastasia DipBrow Pomade in Chocolate. Use this and you will never use anything else on your brows. I've been loving Sleek's Life's A Peach and MAC Perfect Topping. These two together makes for a natural, dimensional look without being over the top. Although I will say $32 for a highlighter is not something I'll ever be doing again, it was a moment of weakness. For eyes I've been using the NARS Kalahari Duo through the crease and outer corner and MAC's Naked Pigment on the lid and lots and lots of Clinique High Impact Mascara which is the greatest thing ever. My lips have not been without NYX's Butter Gloss in Creme Brulee, quite surprising considering I'm generally a matte lip person!

What have you been loving this month? Let me know!

The No Makeup Makeup

Sometimes I don't feel like wearing makeup, but sometimes I don't want to alarm the greater population with my naked face so I throw these babies on. The Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet in Beige Rose (12) is my go-to foundation, and applied sheerly with my beautyblender provides a natural, beautiful skin. My under eyes are forever dark nowadays, thanks college. The Rimmel Match Perfection Concealer in Fair remidies the darkness without being heavy and gives a brightened look to my undereyes. Brows are something I cannot do without, a defining feature on your face makes the simplest look seem put together. My tried and trues are the Anastasia DipBrow Pomade in Chocolate and Bobbi Brown's Espresso Eyeshadow (now called Rich Caviar) which combined make my eyebrows look perfect! For lashes my beloved Clinique High Impact Mascara always takes the cake.

Turquoise Nails

Today's nails were inspired by the lovely Nina of ninanailedit. Follow her on instagram and you will be itching to do some insane nail art. For this look I used Sally Hansen's Triple Shine in Dive In as a base. Then using the water-marble hairspray technique (YouTube!) I created the turquoise stone effect. A matte topcoat really seals the deal in making them look stone like (I used the Revlon one).

What have you got on your nails today?

Tartelette Palette

For some reason I have been obsessed with matte eyeshadows recently. Bored with the few shades the LORAC Pro palette has to offer, I set out on the hunt to find a new matte palette. I know, I need no more makeup. How do you suggest I resist? I think I saw Nikkie talking about this and I knew I needed it. So I walked myself on into Sephora and snatched this baby up. I have used nothing since.

I really love Tarte, but in general their eyeshadows are subpar compared to other brands. These ones blew me away. They are buttery and smooth and not too powdery for a matte. The shadows contain Tarte's Amazonian Clay meaning they are soft and last for a long time! With a primer they last well all day on me. Best of all, they are incredibly pigmented and blend out beautifully. My eye makeup is a dream in the morning. I usually mix it up, but the palette is laid out beautifully from light to dark in rows, meaning looks are basically planned out for you. The packaging is beautiful and fun while still looking and feeling luxurious. It's not too big and not too small.

The Tartelette palette costs $44 and contains 12 eyeshadows. Each pan contains .0053 oz of product, .64 oz total (MAC Eyeshadows each contain .5oz for reference). The Urban Decay Naked palettes cost $54 and .6oz total, so if you prefer mattes, I think the Tartelette palette is an amazing deal! I really hope Tarte comes out with some new palettes on par with this quality!

I can't wait to show you some looks I've created with this beauty! Have you tried it yet?

Pinspiration 02

It's my birthday and I'm sitting in the back of a lecture on Pinterest. Sorry professor. I thought while I'm here I might as well write you a Pinspiration post.

01 Painted Globes These globes are so beautiful, I'm on the hunt for a globe to paint, I specifially like the constellation one! Hopefully I can recreate for less than $150....

02 Nina Nailed It I follow Nina on Instagram and it makes me want to get all fancy with my nails. This beautiful turquoise stone mani is the one I want to try next. She said her secret to making it look realistic is the thin line around the nail.

03 Matte Eyes I recently picked up the Tartelette palette (review coming this week!) and I am LOVING the matte eyes, it's all over my Pinterest.

04 Henna I ordered some henna recently and I am OBSESSED with finding gorgeous designs to do.

05 D'Orsay I really love d'orsay flats, and these brown leather ones caught my eye. I usually wear black shoes but I'm on the hunt for these now.

What have you been loving on Pinterest this week?

Sephora Beauty Insider Gift

So my birthday is this upcoming Tuesday and one of the things I was most looking forward to is the Beauty Insider gift this year. I know, lame, but I'm turning 20 and I feel not too excited about growing up. When I found out that the birthday gift this years was two NARS lip pencils I couldn't wait for February. You get a Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella (OMG) and a Satin Lip Pencil in Rikugien. Cruella is described as a scarlet red, it's the most perfect red I've come across. It neither leans too blue or orange, it sits perfectly in the middle. It is dark, but not vampy and I am in love. The lasting power of this baby is ridiculous. I wore it to class all day and then straight to work, so around 9 hours of wear. Rikugien is a rose pink. The satin formula is beautiful and moisturizing, but obviously not as long lasting.

I definitely want to pick up some more of these beautiful pencils, are there any colours you love?
